End User Computing & Experience

I’m a maker at the end of the day, not a painter, so my passion for developing solutions and developing people is a natural fit for me. These solutions are products that require constant refinement and not just completed projects.

Some people are lucky when they can say they're proud of one thing they've done in their career. I've lost count of the things I'm proud of. My teams have helped find, and recover, stolen devices from around the globe. We’ve introduced iOS to support curbside delivery at Publix. Another team I managed helped support live television at NBC. Another team I managed engineered the introduction and deployment of Android. I’ve migrated groups of unmanaged macOS computers and elevated them to an enterprise fleet multiple times.

You’ll notice I avoid giving technical details below. If you want to know more, reach out. I’m more than happy to discuss. The day-to-day tools involved in most of the solutions I support are: Jamf Pro, Apple Business Manager, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, Office 365, zsh/bash scripts.

Macs in Media

At some companies, a computer is procured and setup for knowledge workers without regard to its actual use. But at NBCUniversal, setups ranged from generic office use to live broadcast to war zone reporting. My team was responsible for coordinating the engineering efforts to support multiple scenarios with few “one size fits all” approaches. This included some of the backend work, and coordination with Apple, to support the Late Night Entertainment team deploy a 4k video workflow with Mac Studios before Saturday Night Live’s 48th season.

iPads deployed to rugged environments

The team was asked to replace ruggedized Windows laptops with iPad Pros. Since the iPads are used in construction, making them rugged and keeping them portable was key. Utilizing a zero-touch enrollment workflow was an important factor in the success of this solution since the people that were using them didn’t always have an office and worked exclusively out of their homes or in the field.

Android in Retail

Led the engineering team responsible for deploying Android in our retail environment using Honeywell’s CT60. This meant refining processes around enrollment and refining processes around maintenance.

Zero Touch Deployments

Setting up a computer from any location right out of the box seemed like fantasy just a few years ago. But when COVID sent everyone home, it would have been impossible to support without a zero-touch workflow to setup new computers. Computers can also be sent to people in the office or to their homes and they have everything they need.

One of my favorite parts of this process is how tool like Microsoft OneDrive can be leveraged to backup, then restore, important parts of someone’s home directory when a computer is replaced.

The side benefit to using zero-touch enrollment is loss prevention. This workflow has been responsible for the recovery of computers from Jamaica, Mexico, Maryland, and other places.

Custom iPhone Cases

Hard to describe this as something beyond just purchasing a product from Otterbox, because it’s exactly that. But this is one of my favorite things in part because it solves a few problems we were encountering. The first is a perception problem, because it’s easy to assume a retail associate is playing around on their phone when they’re actually working. The branding helps to prevent that. The second is identifying the device in case its lost AND the display is damaged.
