Hay is for Horses

A horse is a horse and a man is a man
And neither can be the other
And each can survive but is much better
In the company of one another.
And while a horse is a horse and that is true
A horse is but a beast
As a cow is a cow, some ask how
On its flesh we should not feast?
For they do so in France as in other places
And I don't know how they can
For while a horse is a horse and is only a horse
It is less a cow than it is a man!
-Tomás Ó Cárthaigh

Inside Out

This video game controller is trapped inside a vase and should remind us to take a break from playing video games, go outside, eat a banana and enjoy nature.  It is 12 x 9 oil on hardboard.

Southbound

It's been said that all paintings are self portraits of the artists that create them. You may have guessed from my paintings that I drive a lot and you'd be right. I also sit in a lot of traffic (thanks Baltimore!) but that gives me a chance to get familiar with sights like this overpass. This is 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel. If you're interested in this piece let me know.

R and R

Sand in my swimsuit,
Sand in my hair.
When I go to the beach,
sand gets everywhere!
I wonder, I wonder
Oh how can there be,
Sand left at the beach
When there's so much on me?
-Helen Moore

Water Tower

Bottles

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Cap Spartel

This is a lighthouse located in Morocco and it marks the opening to the Strait of Gibraltar.  I painted this scene from a picture taken on my honeymoon.

It is 9 x 12 oil on hardboard.

Brandywine Creek

"I have seen water in all of its majesty, pouring in torrents over great falls, rushing madly through deep gorges, and tossing wildly as waves of the oceans.  I have seen it in the frozen stillness of a winter pond, and in the flower like crystals of snowflakes.  I have seen it in the soft morning dew, and as the gentle tear drop in the eye of a beautiful lady- BUT, as a beverage it is a failure." For Rent

Bird houses are like rental properties without the legal mess. Birds are supposed to live there, rent free, and eat all of the bird seed provided without having to do much else.   Then when the weather gets bad, they just go south...sounds like the life.

Sunny Side Up

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I decided to end the series with another breakfast scene.

Overpass

I like how the overpass frames the lights off in the distance. It leads the viewer to a little escape...

Two Halves

This month's egg theme continues with this broken Cadbury Creme Egg. This candy reminds us that Spring is near. They are only available during this time of the year, so this was a special treat to both eat AND paint.  It is painted on 6 x 6 gessoed illustration board.

Winter Sunrise

Have you ever taken the time to appreciate the pretty colors that occur during sunrise? Some people are not awake during this time and others, who are awake, do not take the time to really look at how beautiful the sky looks as the sun rises.

Baltimore Harbor Tunnel South

The Baltimore Harbor Tunnel is a beautiful example of post-war American architecture. The buildings are set off to the side in a gesture that almost says "I know you have some place to be, why don't you go ahead."

This is 9 x 12 on hardboard. Please call me, email me, or click here if you'd like to buy this painting.

Cadbury Creme Egg

Yummy! This is the second egg painting in the series. Doesn't it look good enough to eat?  It is painted on 6 x 6 gessoed illustration board.
